Syballance, syballance...

I made a quick little pencil test of a finished set of upturned mouths. I haphazardly threw them in, trying not to put too many vowels in a row. It kind of looks like he's saying "Pohsheyflaffp"- the standard phrase that animators have been using to test cheap mouth movements for years.

There's a weird line separating each mouth from the face. We like to draw full chin movements for our mouth sets, it's gives the characters a little more life. Since Photoshop needs a closed off area in order to quickly fill in the chin with color, we have to draw that wavy top line to enclose the chin- it's later erased or masked out in After Effects. Typically when you're drawing for animation, you try to close all of your lines so that the coloring process goes easier. Though when you don't have time to ink- it never seems to. At least for us, because we're not that smart, and I don't press hard enough when cleaning up or something.

Hey Ben, you don't know me, but I've worked with Matt. In the interest of seeing more cartoons sooner, I'd like to suggest a faster method of scanning & coloring, namely, the much ignore toonboom studio. It's inherited the awesome scanning & VECTORIZING prowess of it's big boy counterparts, and it's only $300. You have to get used to it's goofy interface, but I think it has the potential to save you guies a ton of time if you invest some time upfront to figure it out. At the very least, download a trial and test it out! - jules

Hey man. Yeah I was actually looking around at that a couple days ago but wasn't sure which package would work out the best. But if studio has the scanning & vectorizing ish then I'm definitely going to download the trail version and try it. Thanks

Whatever he's saying, I hear it in my head with a New Orleans accent. Like Big Daddy in that Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase episode with Wiggum and Skinner.

Funny...I was getting "kill your parents...kill your parents." Good thing they're 7000 miles away from me!
